QuantGPT vs TradingView
Updated October 2026 · Written by QuantGPT, the maker of one of the two, so read it knowing that
// THE SHORT VERSION
TradingView is a charting platform and social network for traders. You chart almost any market, test technical strategies written in Pine Script, its own language, and trade through supported brokers directly on its charts.
QuantGPT is the data and trading platform for AI. Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or any MCP client runs backtests in seconds over one URL, with no code to write, on decades of US stock history. QuantGPT never manages a trade: you trade at your own broker, or your own code does through QuantGPT Cloud on QuantGPT Pro.
If you trade from charts and want to script your own indicators and strategies, TradingView is built for that. If you want to test a rule across the whole US stock market from the AI you already use, that is what QuantGPT is for.
// WHERE TRADINGVIEW IS STRONG

// SIDE BY SIDE
| TRADINGVIEW | QUANTGPT | |
|---|---|---|
| Code required | For charting and the built-in and community indicators, no. Your own strategy is Pine Script code. | No. Pick a documented strategy and set its parameters, build criteria in the terminal, or ask Claude or ChatGPT in plain English once it is connected. |
| AI integration | An MCP server in beta, on Essential and above (trial plans do not include it), with 30+ tools for watchlists, market data, the screener, news, fundamentals, documents, calendars and alerts. Its tool list has no backtest or Pine Script tool (checked 2026-10-28), and its blog notes that market data is delayed during the beta. | One MCP URL, https://terminal.quantgpt.co/mcp: claude.ai, Claude Desktop and ChatGPT sign in over OAuth with no key to paste, and Cursor or any other MCP client uses a key. Your AI searches the library, runs backtests in seconds and queries the data, and every MCP tool is read-only: nothing it can call places, modifies or cancels an order. AI calls: 500 a day on QuantGPT, 1,500 a day on QuantGPT Pro. |
| History depth | Daily and higher timeframes: all available history for a symbol, on every plan. Intraday charts hold 5K bars on Basic, 10K on Essential and Plus, 20K on Premium and 40K on Ultimate. Deep Backtesting (Premium and Ultimate) tests one selected symbol over a range you choose, up to two million bars. | US stocks and ETFs on daily bars. The S&P 500 index from 1928; single stocks thin before 1980. Companies that later delisted are in market-wide backtests from 1998 (12,816 of 13,193, or 97%); earlier years hold survivors only. Fundamentals are joined by filing date. Backtests start in 1998 unless you pick another year. |
| Costs in a backtest | Commission and slippage are strategy properties you set; slippage is a fixed number of ticks, 0 unless the script or you change it. | The headline numbers are gross of costs. Every backtest also lists its results after costs at 5, 10, 25 and 50 basis points a side on its measured turnover, and its exact trade count. |
| Strategy library | 100K+ community-powered indicators, and a public library of community indicators and strategies you can filter to open-source scripts. | 175 documented strategies from research papers, famous investors and their letters, 55 of them runnable as one-click backtests with your parameters. |
| Trading | Trade through selected brokers directly on its charts, on every plan, plus simulated paper trading. | QuantGPT never manages a trade. On QuantGPT Pro, QuantGPT Cloud hosts code you write or adopt and sends its orders to your own brokerage account under your own keys (Alpaca today, paper and live accounts), using only the broker's own order types. Or follow a backtest on paper ($100,000 on paper, marked every night), or trade at your own broker. |
| Pricing | Basic $0. On 2026-10-28 its pricing page showed Essential at $12.95, Plus at $29.95, Premium at $59.95 and Ultimate at $199.95 a month, billed annually. Advanced report metrics and trade exports start on Essential; Deep Backtesting on Premium. | QuantGPT: $49 a month, 200 backtests a day. QuantGPT Pro: $149 a month, adding three times the AI calls and QuantGPT Cloud. Both start with a 3-day free trial, card up front, cancel any time. Business from $1,499 a month, by call. |
// WHERE QUANTGPT DIFFERS
Your AI runs the backtest, in the chat you already use
QuantGPT is the data and trading platform for AI. Connect Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or any MCP client once, at one URL, and your AI searches the library, runs a backtest in seconds and reads the result mid-conversation. The computation runs on our side, and the answer comes back with the numbers that produced it. Guides: connect Claude, connect ChatGPT, connect Cursor.
Decades of US stock history
A QuantGPT backtest can run a rule across the whole US stock market from 1998, with companies that later delisted in the universe, and each result shows every calendar year beside the benchmark. Every backtest is also split at a year (2015 by default) and judged on the years after it. Our daily bars can be checked one at a time against any independent source on the public verify page.
Lessons that play without an account
Three lessons run on real market data with no sign-in: arm your AI, become a quant, run the backtester. Start with learn quantitative investing, a written lesson on one real trend rule.
// WHO SHOULD USE WHICH
TradingView, if you
- trade from charts and want to draw, script and set alerts in one place;
- write Pine Script, or want to learn it, to test technical strategies bar by bar;
- want intraday charts, forex, futures or crypto beside stocks;
- want to trade through a supported broker directly on the chart;
- want to start at $0.
QuantGPT, if you
- want to test an idea on US stocks across decades and market regimes, without code;
- already use Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor and want it to run backtests mid-conversation;
- want a rule run across the whole market, companies that later delisted included from 1998;
- place your own trades at your own broker, by hand or, on QuantGPT Pro, with your own code on QuantGPT Cloud.
Both, if you
want to find out whether a rule held up across the US stock market for decades, then chart and time it on TradingView. On QuantGPT, Download the criteria puts the rules and the backtest's numbers in one file, a starting point for a Pine Script version.

// QUESTIONS
Is TradingView good for backtesting?
For technical strategies on a chart, yes. Pine Script strategies simulate trades across historical and realtime bars, and the Basic plan at $0 includes strategy backtesting with the basic report metrics. Advanced report metrics and trade exports start on Essential, and Deep Backtesting, which tests a selected symbol over a date range you choose, up to two million bars, starts on Premium. Your own strategy is Pine Script code. For a rule tested across the whole US stock market over decades, with no code, QuantGPT is built for that.
What is the best TradingView alternative for backtesting?
It depends on the test. To test a rule across the whole US stock market from 1998, with companies that later delisted in the data (12,816 of 13,193, or 97%), by asking Claude or ChatGPT in plain English, QuantGPT is built for that. For no-code technical strategies and trading bots, TrendSpider is one option; for ranking stocks on point-in-time fundamentals, Portfolio123; for writing Python or C#, QuantConnect. If you want to keep charting and write Pine Script, TradingView itself covers it.
Can I use Claude or ChatGPT with TradingView or QuantGPT?
Yes, for different jobs. TradingView's MCP server, in beta on Essential and above (trial plans do not include it), brings its quotes, price history, screener, fundamentals, news, watchlists and alerts into Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and other MCP clients; its tool list has no backtest or Pine Script tool (checked 2026-10-28). QuantGPT's MCP server at https://terminal.quantgpt.co/mcp lets your AI search the strategy library, run backtests in seconds and query the data; claude.ai, Claude Desktop and ChatGPT sign in over OAuth.
Can QuantGPT trade from a chart the way TradingView does?
No. QuantGPT has no chart trading. QuantGPT never manages a trade: QuantGPT Cloud, on QuantGPT Pro, hosts code you write or adopt and sends its orders to your own brokerage account under your own keys (Alpaca today, paper and live accounts), using only the broker's own order types. TradingView lets you trade through selected brokers directly on its charts, on every plan, and has simulated paper trading too.
What does each one cost?
TradingView, as of 2026-10-28: Basic at $0, then Essential at $12.95, Plus at $29.95, Premium at $59.95 and Ultimate at $199.95 a month, billed annually. QuantGPT is $49 a month and QuantGPT Pro $149 a month, each starting with a 3-day free trial with a card up front; Business starts at $1,499 a month.
