QuantGPT vs TrendSpider
Updated October 2026 · Written by QuantGPT, the maker of one of the two, so read it knowing that
// THE SHORT VERSION
TrendSpider is a no-code platform for technical traders. You build a strategy in its visual editor or ask Sidekick, its AI assistant, to build it, backtest it on stocks, ETFs, futures, forex or crypto, and turn it into a bot that sends alerts or routes orders to a supported broker.
QuantGPT is the data and trading platform for AI. Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or any MCP client runs backtests in seconds over one URL, with no code to write, on decades of US stock history. QuantGPT never manages a trade: you trade at your own broker, or your own code does through QuantGPT Cloud on QuantGPT Pro.
If you trade technical setups and want charts, scans, backtests and bots in one app, TrendSpider is built for that. If you want to test a rule across the whole US stock market from the AI you already use, that is what QuantGPT is for.
// WHERE TRENDSPIDER IS STRONG
First, what TrendSpider does well, from its own pages, checked 2026-10-28 (every source is listed at the end).
- No codeThe Strategy Tester builds entry, exit and risk rules in a visual editor with no coding, from scratch, from a saved template or from a strategy imported from the TrendSpider Store.
- AISidekick builds a strategy from a broad goal or from exact rules, runs the backtests, sets aside weak approaches and refines the promising ones, saving every version. Every plan includes 25 Sidekick messages a month.
- TestingGroup Strategy Tester compares strategies across up to 500 symbols, timeframes and historical periods at once, and you can test other periods to see whether a result holds outside the data used to build it. A trade-cost setting covers commissions and slippage.
- MarketsStrategy backtesting on stocks, ETFs, futures, forex and crypto, with history it says reaches more than 50 years for instruments with enough data.
- BotsA saved strategy becomes a bot without rebuilding the rules, sending notifications or routing orders to a supported broker.
- ModelsML Quant Lab trains predictive models without coding, and custom indicators can be written in JavaScript.
- ReachIts homepage says it is loved by 20,000+ traders.
// SIDE BY SIDE
| TRENDSPIDER | QUANTGPT | |
|---|---|---|
| Code required | No. A visual editor for entry, exit and risk rules, or describe them to Sidekick. Custom indicators can be written in JavaScript. | No. Pick a documented strategy and set its parameters, build criteria in the terminal, or ask Claude or ChatGPT in plain English once it is connected. |
| AI integration | Sidekick, inside TrendSpider: it builds strategies, runs the backtests and refines them. 25 messages a month on every plan; paid Sidekick plans add more, from Basic at $49 a month for up to 100 to Max at $349 a month for up to 1,000. | One MCP URL, https://terminal.quantgpt.co/mcp: claude.ai, Claude Desktop and ChatGPT sign in over OAuth with no key to paste, and Cursor or any other MCP client uses a key. Your AI searches the library, runs backtests in seconds and queries the data, and every MCP tool is read-only: nothing it can call places, modifies or cancels an order. AI calls: 500 a day on QuantGPT, 1,500 a day on QuantGPT Pro. |
| History depth | More than 50 years for instruments with enough data, in its words. Each backtest is capped by candle depth: 2K on Standard, 10K on Premium, 20K on Enhanced and 30K on Advanced, with 20K available on Standard and Premium for $39 a month. Direct options and index backtesting are not supported by the Strategy Tester today. | US stocks and ETFs on daily bars. The S&P 500 index from 1928; single stocks thin before 1980. Companies that later delisted are in market-wide backtests from 1998 (12,816 of 13,193, or 97%); earlier years hold survivors only. Fundamentals are joined by filing date. Backtests start in 1998 unless you pick another year. |
| Costs in a backtest | A trade-cost setting that stands in for commissions, slippage and other transaction costs. | The headline numbers are gross of costs. Every backtest also lists its results after costs at 5, 10, 25 and 50 basis points a side on its measured turnover, and its exact trade count. |
| Strategy library | Saved templates, and free and paid third-party strategies, scanners and indicators in the TrendSpider Store. | 175 documented strategies from research papers, famous investors and their letters, 55 of them runnable as one-click backtests with your parameters. |
| Trading | Bots send notifications or route orders to a supported broker, and you can trade from inside the platform. Trading bots by plan: 5 on Standard up to 100 on Advanced. | QuantGPT never manages a trade. On QuantGPT Pro, QuantGPT Cloud hosts code you write or adopt and sends its orders to your own brokerage account under your own keys (Alpaca today, paper and live accounts), using only the broker's own order types. Or follow a backtest on paper ($100,000 on paper, marked every night), or trade at your own broker. |
| Pricing | Four plans: Standard, Premium, Enhanced and Advanced, every one with all features. A 14-day trial is paid, from $19 (Standard) to $49 (Advanced) at list; on 2026-10-28 a sale priced every trial at $19. Plan prices after the trial vary by plan, payment term and promotion. | QuantGPT: $49 a month, 200 backtests a day. QuantGPT Pro: $149 a month, adding three times the AI calls and QuantGPT Cloud. Both start with a 3-day free trial, card up front, cancel any time. Business from $1,499 a month, by call. |
// WHERE QUANTGPT DIFFERS
Your AI runs the backtest, in the chat you already use
QuantGPT is the data and trading platform for AI. Connect Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or any MCP client once, at one URL, and your AI searches the library, runs a backtest in seconds and reads the result mid-conversation. The computation runs on our side, and the answer comes back with the numbers that produced it. Guides: connect Claude, connect ChatGPT, connect Cursor.
Decades of US stock history
A QuantGPT backtest can run a rule across the whole US stock market from 1998, with companies that later delisted in the universe, and each result shows every calendar year beside the benchmark. Every backtest is also split at a year (2015 by default) and judged on the years after it. Our daily bars can be checked one at a time against any independent source on the public verify page.
Lessons that play without an account
Three lessons run on real market data with no sign-in: arm your AI, become a quant, run the backtester. Start with learn quantitative investing, a written lesson on one real trend rule.
// WHO SHOULD USE WHICH
TrendSpider, if you
- trade technical setups and want charts, scanners, backtests and alerts in one app;
- want to build strategies by pointing and clicking, or by asking Sidekick;
- want bots that send alerts or route orders to a supported broker;
- trade futures, forex or crypto as well as stocks.
QuantGPT, if you
- want to test an idea on US stocks across decades and market regimes, without code;
- already use Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor and want it to run backtests mid-conversation;
- want a rule run across the whole market, companies that later delisted included from 1998;
- place your own trades at your own broker, by hand or, on QuantGPT Pro, with your own code on QuantGPT Cloud.
Both, if you
want to see whether a rule held up across the US stock market for decades, then build the technical version as a TrendSpider strategy and bot.

// QUESTIONS
What are the best TrendSpider alternatives?
It depends on what you use TrendSpider for. For backtests on US stocks across decades, run from Claude, ChatGPT or another AI client in plain English, QuantGPT is built for that. For charting and Pine Script strategies with a $0 starting plan, TradingView. For ranking stocks on point-in-time fundamentals, Portfolio123. For no-code strategies that the platform trades for you, Composer. For Python or C# algorithms with live trading, QuantConnect.
Do I need to code to use TrendSpider or QuantGPT?
No, for either one. TrendSpider's Strategy Tester builds entry, exit and risk rules in a visual editor, and Sidekick can build them from a description. On QuantGPT you pick a documented strategy and set its parameters, build criteria in the terminal, or ask Claude or ChatGPT in plain English once it is connected.
How does Sidekick compare with using Claude or ChatGPT on QuantGPT?
Sidekick is TrendSpider's own AI, inside TrendSpider: it builds strategies from a goal or from exact rules, runs the backtests and refines them, with 25 messages a month on every plan and paid Sidekick plans for more. QuantGPT works inside the AI you already use: connect https://terminal.quantgpt.co/mcp to Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or any MCP client, and it searches the strategy library, runs backtests and queries the data in the conversation.
How far back can each one backtest?
TrendSpider says its history reaches more than 50 years for instruments with enough data, and each backtest is capped by candle depth: 2K on Standard, 10K on Premium, 20K on Enhanced and 30K on Advanced. QuantGPT backtests US stocks from 1998 by default, with companies that later delisted in the data from 1998 on and survivors only in earlier years; the S&P 500 index goes back to 1928.
What does each one cost?
TrendSpider, as of 2026-10-28: a 14-day paid trial, from $19 on Standard to $49 on Advanced at list, with every trial at $19 during a sale that day; plan prices after the trial vary by plan, payment term and promotion. QuantGPT is $49 a month and QuantGPT Pro $149 a month, each starting with a 3-day free trial with a card up front; Business starts at $1,499 a month.
